Southern Prevention Associates will provide abstinence education in Greene, Jefferson, Sumter and Walker County. The program is delivered in seventh, eighth and ninth grade classes in middle and high schools. The evidence based curriculum, Making a Difference, provides students with the knowledge and skills to reduce their risk for sexually transmitted disease, HIV and pregnancy by abstaining from sexual activity. The curriculum, which includes videos, role-playing, skill building activities and group discussion, is taught by trained facilitators in 13 sessions. Parents are provided a monthly newsletter with information on the prevention of all adolescent risky behaviors. The evidence based curriculum, Relationship Smarts Plus 3.0, addresses positive youth development, life skills, healthy relationships, dating violence, and pregnancy prevention. The curriculum is taught by trained facilitators in 6 sessions at the seventh grade level and 6 sessions at the ninth grade level.
